Cape Girardeau, Missouri sits in the southeast corner of the state. Along the Mississippi River, just across the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge from Illinois, the city’s 200-year history is tied to its position on the river. In the 1700s, French trader, Jean Girardot established the area as a trading post along the Mississippi in the proximity of more than 20 Native American tribes, offering a place to exchange furs and other goods. In 1793, the city was officially founded as a military post and served as a gateway for Lewis and Clark’s journey west. Also, near the river, is the Civil War-era Ford D where Lieutenant John Wesley Powell directed a Union regiment before later venturing west where he explored the Grand Canyon. However, with Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) and Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, the city’s legacy is still growing. Cape Girardeau is home to 40,000 people and covers nearly 30 square miles in Cape Girardeau County, spilling into Scott County. It’s estimated that nearly double that number visit the city for school or work, making it an important hub for education and industry. “Cape”, as the city is called locally, has an expansive, educational conservation nature center, a safari park where exotic animals are showcased, the Show Me Center on SEMO campus which hosts everything from Redhawks basketball to big name concerts like Parker McCollum and traveling shows like Disney on Ice and Blippi, The Isle Casino, a regional airport, and Cape Splash Aquatic Center just across from Banterra Centre.
The Banterra Bank branch in Cape is located within Banterra Centre on Kingshighway Drive. The Cape branch and Banterra Centre are visible from State Hwy 61/Interstate 55 Business Route on the east side of the highway, where Lexington Avenue, Mt Auburn Road, and the highway converge. You’ll find the building across from Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center, north of Plaza Tire Service and Ford Groves Ford Lincoln car dealership, and south of Ace Hardware, McDonald’s and Scooter’s Coffee.
On the ground floor of the building, alongside the Italian Ciao Ristorante, Banterra Bank provides a modern, comfortable environment for day-to-day transactions, or to talk with specialists for personal, business, or agricultural banking needs.
This branch in Cape is the nearest location for students, faculty and staff of Southeast Missouri State University. This location is also convenient for customers in Scott City, Jackson, or Gordonville, Missouri or in McClure or East Cape Girardeau, Illinois.
