At Banterra, we strive to be your financial partner in all aspects of your banking needs, including offering products that fit your unique needs, building strong relationships, and providing support in every way we can to help your business succeed. One of the ways that we show that support is through Banterra’s “Meet The Merchant” blog series, which provides insight into the entrepreneurial journey of some of our business customers and then promoted through our marketing channels. As the season changes, it is the perfect time to highlight Aching Acres Wholesale Nursery owned by Danny and Monica Fuquay. Continue reading to learn more about their story and how they have grown their landscaping business in the Evansville, Indiana area.
What Was The Inspiration Or Motivation In Starting Your Business?
Danny started Aching Acres Landscaping in 1996. The former Ridge Wholesale Nursery was his main source for plant material. When the previous owners decided to sell in 2021, it was a natural next step for us to further grow our business.
Did You Always Dream Of Becoming An Entrepreneur?
Danny knew early on he wanted to work for himself. He grew up learning about business from his parents and grandparents. I was a special education teacher and school counselor, so this is a completely new experience for me, that has been both challenging and rewarding.
How Has Your Business Grown Over The Years?
We started with products the previous owners sold. Then, in our first ordering season, we toured new tree nurseries and growers looking for the most quality product. We have added multiple selections of trees, shrubs, and flowers since we took ownership. The largest addition was our stone yard. We were given distributorship from Earthworks and our product line now includes boulders, flagstone, cobblers, edgers and more.
What Have You Done To Achieve Such Growth?
We have a team second to none. Our managers and staff are incredibly knowledgeable, eager to help, and love to work. They do so much each and every day to build relationships with and earn the trust of our customers.
What Is One Piece Of Advice You Would Give To Aspiring Entrepreneurs?
Think big. Start with your dream, have a plan, and set reasonable goals. It has also proven to be very necessary to choose a bank and accountant who is available and willing to help.
How Does Your Community Play A Role In Your Success?
The tristate area landscapers and contractors are essential. Without their loyalty, we could not place orders from our nurseries with confidence knowing the material would sell.
Why Did You Decide To Partner With Banterra?
We have a great relationship with Banterra through our other companies, so we already knew of the excellent service from those experiences.
How Has Banterra Helped Your Business To Become More Successful?
Banterra's employees are always there to answer questions and resolve issues FAST! We are always greeted with warm smiling faces, and that is so important.
