At Banterra, we strive to be your financial partner in all aspects of your banking needs, including offering products that fit your unique needs, building strong relationships, and providing support in every way we can to help your business succeed. One of the ways that we show that support is through Banterra’s “Meet The Merchant” blog series, which provides insight into the entrepreneurial journey of some of our business customers and then promoted through our marketing channels. This month, we are excited to hear from Adam Watts, co-founder and partner of Rigby Watts & Company, which is a firm located in Salt Lake City, Utah operating across venture capital, real estate, and financial advisory services with a specialized focus on medical and dental real estate development and acquisition. Continue reading to learn how Rigby Watts & Company has grown from one real estate asset to 24 over the last nine years, the consistency behind that growth, and how Banterra has helped fuel their continued success.
Tell Us About Your Business
We operate in three verticals including venture capital, real estate, and financial advisory. My main focus is on the real estate development and acquisition vertical where we exclusively focus on medical and dental real estate.
What Was The Inspiration Or Motivation In Starting Your Business?
We wanted to bring all three verticals under one umbrella to provide more value add to our clients and investors. By bringing more value to them we thought it naturally would produce increased value for myself and my business partner.
Did You Always Dream Of Becoming An Entrepreneur?
I had aspirations, but started out working in development with my father, transitioned to real estate law and then eventually made my way back into the real estate development world.
How Has Your Business Grown Over The Years?
We have grown slowly and steadily from one real estate asset to 24 over the last nine years.
What Have You Done To Achieve Such Growth?
We’ve grown by continuing to show up day after day in our offices and grinding away on seemingly monotonous details, emails and phone calls. We are simply focusing on one day at a time.
What Is One Piece Of Advice You'd Give To Aspiring Entrepreneurs?
I would say stop trying to be spectacular and start being consistent. Anyone can do it once, but the outliers do it often.
How Does Your Community Play A Role In Your Success?
Our community and network are the only way we have been able to slowly grow over the years. It really is everything.
How Has Banterra Helped Your Business To Become More Successful?
Banterra has been one of the only banks that has been able to think outside the box with us. Each deal is unique. Every medical group is unique. Given all the complexities that we face, we need a bank who doesn't put us in a box. We need a bank who is entrepreneurial just like us.
They have provided the fuel that has allowed us to go from one building to 24 buildings. Their assistance, capital and belief in our projects has taken us from a small-time dreaming developer to having developed over $90,000,000 in assets with 52 different tenants and growing.
