At Banterra, we believe in being more than just a bank for your business. We strive to be your financial partner by offering products that fit your unique needs, building strong relationships, and providing support in every way we can to help your business succeed. One of the ways that we show that support is through Banterra’s “Meet The Merchant” blog series, which provides insight into the entrepreneurial journey of some of our business customers and then promoted through our marketing channels. Next to be featured is The Prairie Queen, a casual eatery located in East Prairie, Missouri. Owners Keith and Julie McKinney are dedicated to providing their community with delicious comfort food in their family-friendly environment. Dive in to learn more.
What Was The Inspiration Or Motivation In Starting Your Business?
Our motivation was serving our community, as well as owning our own family business.
Did You Always Dream Of Becoming An Entrepreneur?
Yes, most definitely. The desire started when we were both young.
How Has Your Business Grown Over The Years?
We have grown over the years by providing quality service to customers, as well as offering home cooked meals and hand-pattied burgers.
What Have You Done To Achieve Such Growth?
We continue to provide the best quality services possible to our customers. We listen to them and take into consideration their needs and suggestions. In doing so, some of those suggestions may work and some may not. Regardless, we strive to meet and exceed the desires of our community. In addition to service, we continue to expand our menu offerings including appetizers, sides, and sandwiches. This provides our customers a variety of options and increases their return rate.
What Is One Piece Of Advice You Would Give To Aspiring Entrepreneurs?
What you put into your business will be what you will get out of it. Your business will only succeed if you are there to oversee it and care about it.
How Does Your Community Play A Role In Your Success?
Without the community's support we would not have been able to grow and reach the success we have today.
Why Did You Decide To Partner With Banterra?
One of Banterra’s Senior Bankers, David Shell! My wife and I went into the East Prairie branch to talk with a loan officer during the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic. David happened to be in the branch that day and helped answer all our questions and made us feel very comfortable. In turn, he had several questions for us. Some questions we were able to answer immediately, but others were questions we had not even thought about. His thoroughness, openness about our pros and cons, ideas for success and welcoming spirit (as well as the other team members) were very appreciated. From there we decided to partner with Banterra and make them our home bank!
How Has Banterra Helped Your Business To Become More Successful?
Banterra continues to support us daily, whether it is through excellent customer service, knowing they are there if we need them, or physically visiting the restaurant often.
